If you have a license and operate a car, chances are you’ve had a moment of fear involving a tractor trailer. By virtue of their sheer mass, tractor trailers present a greater danger than most other vehicles on our roads. Problems with driver fatigue, falsification of driver’s logs, poor training and violation of the various federal motor carrier safety standards are all too frequently the cause of truck accidents. Many of them fatal.
In December, 2010 the Federal Motor Safety Administration rolled out a new program, known as the “Compliance, Safety, Accountability (“CSA”)” program, which it hopes will reduce the risks associated with violation of safety standards applicable to the trucking industry. The details of the program are available on the FMSA’s web site.
